A quartz movement in a watch is a type of electronic movement that uses a small piece of quartz crystal to keep time. An automatic movement, on the other hand, is a mechanical movement that is powered by the movement of the wearer's wrist. The seconds hand on an automatic watch moves in a sweeping motion, making multiple small ticks per second, rather than once per second like a quartz watch.
